CutePDF Professional offers a basic layout that is easy to navigate and use. While CutePDF Professional has a several features and tools to offer, it falls short of the higher rankings because the application doesn’t offer the variety of our top convert PDF software choices. One of the disappointing factors we found is that the only output option is to save your files as a PDF. While this won’t cause trouble for some users, others may find it frustrating that they can’t save their documents in other formats.
CutePDF Pro does not provide a text editing tool like most of the other PDF software products, so you will have to do any editing in the original application or use CutePDF Pro to convert the PDF to MS Word and edit from there.
Nonetheless, you do get all the other PDF altering tools you would expect for adding comments, using drawing markup tools and preparing documents for collaboration (underline, stamps, notes, highlights and strikethrough). You can use the Form Editor tool to edit form controls. You can also add text to the document using the Typewriter tool; unfortunately, you cannot alter any existing text. After making changes to your document, you can add digital signatures and 128-bit password encryption and then email it or use the FTP tool to upload it for collaboration and review.
There is no mention anywhere in the support material of support for multimedia of any kind (audio or video). However, the Attach Files tool can be used to add files of any type. So you could use Attach Files to add a sound or video file, but we suggest waiting for a future release to see if this issue is addressed. You can add hyperlinks but there is no mention of adding images. It appears that you could use either the Attach Files or the Image Stamp commands to add an image.
In addition to basic printing and support for advanced print options, with CutePDF Pro you can make booklets and use the Impose (n-up pages) tool to optimize printing by printing multiple pages of the document on one printed page.
CutePDF Pro has a word processor-like interface that has a good color scheme, understandable toolbar icons and sensible captions. The application makes use of your default PDF reader (e.g., Adobe reader) to display the document window and overlay the reader under the toolbars. There are few menus and all the toolbar icons appear on the opening window so a user can learn this application quickly without ever using any help documentation. What makes this application easy to use is that the interface itself is really only used to manage PDFs and forms. PDFs are created directly from any application using the CutePDF Writer as a printer.
F1 Help is available and navigates you to the help menu loaded into the interface. The help menu is a traditional-looking help menu (Contents, Search tabs). There isn’t much content however. Also, the website has a FAQs section and there is technical support but only a little information is available there, and no videos or tutorials. This is your quintessential “less is more” software. The aim here seems to be making the tool easy to use so no one has to go searching for the user manual anyway.
CutePDF Professional is one of our top 10 best convert PDF software choices because the application delivers the features and tools that it promises. While it lacks the number of output options we found in our higher-ranked convert PDF software applications, it still has a number of editing tools and features that will assist you in becoming more efficient, in a simple way.
This application is easy to use and creates professional-looking documents.
It will only let you save files as PDFs.
While CutePDF Professional is a more basic application than other convert PDF software choices, it still offers enough features to increase your efficiency and document quality.
